Most of the people in our data are somebody's teenager, so we would rather hold less of it than more. This page says exactly what we collect and why.

What we collect

Your account. An email address. That is all we need, because we sign you in with a link instead of a password.

The athlete's profile. Whatever you enter to build a map, meaning name, graduation year, sport and event, marks and results, home state, high school, and the preferences you set, such as distance from home or intended major.

Academic records you choose to upload. If you use the grades discount, we take the report card or transcript you upload and read the GPA from it.

Purchases. Stripe handles payment. We never see or store your card number. We keep a record of which plan you bought and a customer reference from Stripe.

How the site is used. Pages viewed and actions taken, through PostHog, so we can tell which parts of the product actually help.

Children and student records

FiftyStar is bought by adults for athletes who are usually between 14 and 18. Accounts are for parents, guardians, and athletes 18 or older. We do not knowingly create accounts for children under 13, and if we learn we have collected a younger child's information we will delete it.

A report card is an education record, so we treat it as the most sensitive thing we hold. We use it for one purpose, which is confirming a GPA to apply a discount. We do not use it to train models, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with schools, coaches, or anyone else. We delete the uploaded file once the GPA has been confirmed, and keep only the resulting number.

What we use it for

To build and improve your maps, to run your account and purchases, to answer you when you write in, and to understand which features earn their place. We use aggregate patterns to improve how well our placement model works.

We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.We do not send an athlete's details to college coaches, recruiting services, or agents. If we ever build something that would share a profile with a program, it will be something you opt into deliberately.

Who else touches it

These companies process data so the product can function:

Supabase stores the database and runs sign-in. Stripe processes payments and holds billing details. Fly.io hosts the application. PostHog records product analytics. An email provider delivers your sign-in links and receipts.

We share what each one needs to do its job and nothing beyond that. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Account and map data stays while your account is open. Uploaded academic records are deleted once the GPA is confirmed. Purchase records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require. Ask us to close your account and we delete your personal data, other than records we are obliged to retain.

Your choices

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@fiftystar.co and we will handle it. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights, including in California and the EU, and we honor those requests regardless of where you live.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you signed in, to remember an access code, and for analytics. We do not run advertising trackers.

Security, honestly stated

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is limited to what the application needs, and sign-in uses one-time links rather than stored passwords. No service can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach ever affects your information, we will tell you.

Questions about anything here? Email hello@fiftystar.co and a person will answer.
